Chhattisgarh cop, a father of three girls, is suspended due to desire for a son

A police policeman in Chhattisgarh has been suspended after his superiors discovered that he had made his wife pregnant four times in order to have a boy. The policeman has three daughters already.

When Dhamtari district constable Prahlad Singh requested an eight-day leave beginning on June 23, the situation came to light. He applied for leave citing his wife's impending delivery as the justification.

However, it was discovered after further investigation by a fellow soldier that Prahlad Singh wanted a male despite having three daughters and had purposefully resorted to making sure his wife was pregnant.

Prahlad Singh has been suspended immediately due to his breach of the National Population Policy and a few regulations of the Chhattisgarh/Madhya Pradesh Civil Service Conduct 1965.

According to the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (General Conditions of Service) Rules 1961 contained in Handbook 2023, having more than two children, one of whom was born on or after January 26, 2001, disqualifies one from receiving government employment, according to battalion officer DR Anchala. Constable Prahlad Singh has been placed on administrative leave as a result.

Following an examination of their service records, show-cause notices have also been issued to two other head constables.
