5 policemen were hurt in a fight that saw a mob attack the Meghalaya CM's office

Officials reported that at least 5 police officers were hurt when a mob invaded the chief minister's office in Tura, Meghalaya, on Monday.

In order to discuss their demand that Tura be designated as the state's winter capital, representatives of the Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) and the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) were present at the office when a mob gathered outside and began throwing stones.

With the aid of lathi charges and tear gas shells, the police chased the protesters away. A couple policemen were hurt during the brawl.

In the town of Tura, a nighttime curfew was immediately implemented. The Chief Minister further declared Rs 50,000 as an ex-gratia payment for the injured troops and stated that the state government will also cover their medical costs.

"The crowd attacked the CM's secretariat at Tura in the evening today, injuring at least five police officers. Police were compelled to use tear gas shells to disperse the throng during the melee, a CM secretariat official told PTI.

According to police officers, a sizable number of outsiders mixed with the demonstrators while they were allegedly looking for winter capital and began throwing stones at the office. Authorities promised to examine the mob's camera footage and find the offenders.

Additionally, there were reports of tire fires in various locations throughout the town.

According to officials, the CM spent the day having "peaceful discussions with agitating organizations for over 3 hours at Tura."
