A farmer in Maharashtra becomes a millionaire after earning Rs 1.5 crore in a single month

In the midst of the nation's rising tomato prices, a farmer from Maharashtra's Pune area has struck it rich. By selling 13,000 crates of tomatoes, Tukaram Bhagoji Gayakar and his family have made almost Rs 1.5 crore in just one month.

The farmer was able to make Rs 2,100 in a day by selling one tomato crate in Narayanganj. Gayakar sold nearly 900 cartons on Friday, earning an astounding Rs 18 lakh in just one day.

On 12 of his 18 acres of farmland, Tukaram grows tomatoes with the aid of his son Ishwar Gayakar and daughter-in-law Sonali. The family insisted that they grow the highest-quality tomatoes because they understand how to use fertilizers and pesticides to safeguard their crop from damage and pests.

Tukaram was successful in selling tomato crates last month for a range of prices, from Rs 1,000 to 2,400 each crate, depending on their quality. Given the high prices, the amazing success of the tomato industry in Junnar, a city in the Pune region, has made a number of farmers millionaires.

The sale of tomatoes last month brought around Rs 80 crore for the neighborhood agriculture committee. According to media accounts, in addition to bringing in money for the growers, more than 100 local women are employed by the industry.

Tukaram's son handles sales and market-related matters, while his daughter-in-law is in charge of cultivation, which includes planting, harvesting, and packaging.

The highest price for 20kg crates of high-quality tomatoes has reached Rs 2,500 at the Jhunnu Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Narayanganj, or Rs 125 per kg.
