After a brief gunfight with the special staff of the outer-north district police, during which he sustained a bullet wound in his leg, authorities claimed on Saturday that a member of the infamous Gogi gang was apprehended.
The alleged criminal has been identified by police as Pawan alias Poona, age 23. In the early hours of Friday, according to the police, the event happened close to the Bawana industrial region in outside Delhi. The police reported that they had taken a stolen TVS Apache motorcycle and a pistol with live ammunition from the scene of the firefight.
At least three shots were fired from each side, according to the police. No one from the raiding team was hurt despite Pawan and the police each firing two rounds that struck his right leg, according to the deputy commissioner
According to DCP Singh, Jitender Maan alias Gogi, one of Delhi's most known gangsters, led the Gogi gang, which includes Pawan, a resident of Sonepat, Haryana.
On September 24, 2021, Maan was shot dead by members of his rival gang under the command of the now-deceased mobster Sunil alias Tillu Tajpuria in a courtroom at the Rohini court complex.
According to Singh, Pawan is involved in the gang's robberies and extortions in the outer north district.
"Our special staff team learned that Pawan would be riding a motorcycle across a road leading to Bawana from Lal Flats late on Friday night. As a result, a trap was set, and the suspect was discovered around midnight on an Apache motorcycle," Singh said.
The suspect attempted to flee quickly after being told to stop, but his bike slipped and he fell off, according to the DCP.
When the police team moved quickly to capture him, Pawan panicked, pulled out a revolver, and fired two bullets at them, according to Singh.
"Fortunately, none of the team members were struck by his gunfire. The team fired one gunshot in self-defense, striking Pawan's right leg. The DCP added that the motorcycle was discovered stolen from the Alipur area during a robbery earlier this year. "Thereafter, he was overpowered, and his firearm was seized," the DCP said.
