Another frightening incident involves a Bengaluru woman who claims that a Rapido driver harassed her while the ride was in progress.
Ironically, the incident happened as the victim, Athira Purushothaman, was walking home from the city's Town Hall area after protesting against violence in Manipur.Â
Purushothaman claimed in her account of the incident that the driver exhibited "inappropriate behavior" while traveling in a secluded area when no other cars were in sight. She discussed the incident in a Twitter conversation where the ride-hailing company was mentioned.Â
"We arrived at a secluded location without any other vehicles during the voyage. Unexpectedly, the driver started riding with one hand while acting inappropriately (masturbating on the bike). I kept quiet during the event out of concern for my safety," she tweeted.Â
Purushothaman urged the platform to make user safety a top priority and expressed concerns regarding the measures taken by Rapido to ensure background checks of the drivers.Â
In the meantime, Bengaluru Police has acknowledged the situation and instructed its staff to take the appropriate steps.Â
Rapido, on the other hand, has not yet made a statement regarding the situation. The company has been contacted by Inc42 for comment; when one is provided, a statement will be included in this article.Â
The victim reportedly voiced a number of other complaints about the bike-hailing service. According to her, the purported driver arrived on a different bike from what was displayed on the app.Â
