Dhindhora Baje Re, a brand-new song from Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, shows Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh grooving to the beat. The song, however, appears to be a parody of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's work. Do you concur?
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is anticipated to be one of the biggest masala comedies of the year due to its A-list star-studded cast, epic settings, traditional Bollywood visuals, and a love switcheroo that ties everything together.Â
Dhindhora Baje Re, the newest song to be taken from the movie, was revealed earlier today. While the peppy song is far from unpleasant, it nevertheless managed to raise some eyebrows due to the striking aesthetic similarity to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's work.
The Durga Puja set where Dhindhora Baje Re is located is a sea of red with red and black floors and white accents. The massive crystal chandeliers that cover the whole ceiling and fill every crevice are the same flaming red colour as the costumes worn by practically every member of the supporting cast and the main characters. Even the Amazonian sculpture of Goddess Durga's pillars supporting the huge structure are blood red with gold touches to match it.
The writer and viewers alike were left scratching their heads thinking, "Is this a love song or a Durga Puja song? ", since the song, performed by Darshan Raval and Bhoomi Trivedi, features lyrics about 'ishq' yet is set against the backdrop of Durga Puja. because the lyrics and the music don't match. And while Ranveer's Punjabi Rocky chose a red Rajasthani Angrakha anarkali, leaving netizens to wonder why he always wears a "frock," Alia Bhatt's Bengali Rani opted for a heavily embellished red saree, instead of the traditional taant, jamdani, or Baluchari as one might expect.
You quickly forget this is a Karan Johar movie once the song starts playing because the spectacle is the same as any Sanjay Leela production, whether it's Devdas, Ram Leela, or Bajirao Mastani. The likeness was also spotted by online users, one of whom made the remark that nobody could "do Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but at least you tried to replicate." An additional remark said, "Lol SLB style, plz be creative and original" (sic).
They are not mistaken; Dhola Re Dhola from Devdas, in which Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai dance during Durga Puja, shares many components with Dhindhora Baje Re. Even the titles are identical. In fact, Ranveer and Alia also imitate the brief scene from Dhola Re Dhola where Madhuri and Aishwarya compete in a friendly dance-off. Not only that, but Aamir Bashir's cringe-worthy knuckle biting gives Milind Gunaji's Kali Babu and his vile intentions and expressions new life.
Aside: Jaya Bachchan appears to be portraying herself while wearing a dark blue salwar kameez and sporting a nasty pout as Alia and Ranveer hyperactively dance about her and shove their 'love' in her face.
The movie is KJo's second following 2016's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and the director has made it clear that the plot is a "grand celebration" with "suggestions" for marriage as well as the fact that the strength of family and love is unstoppable. However, since the movie's announcement, fans have been comparing Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani to a number of other Bollywood movies.
