The Baghdadul Jadid Police in the Bahawalpur City of Punjab detained representatives of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) in Pakistan for possessing illegal drugs, pornographic movies, and images of IUB's female students and workers.
According to the authorities, a "group of teachers" at the institution were engaged in the sale of drugs and the exploitation of female lecturers and students for sex.
The incident was reportedly uncovered on June 28 when a car was stopped at a police checkpoint in Baghdad Jadid, according to sources. The driver of the car attempted to turn around when he saw the cops, but they quickly caught him. According to ARY, when the police searched the automobile, they allegedly discovered aphrodisiacs and 8 grams of ice in his possession.
IUB Chief Security Officer Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah has reportedly been identified as the vehicle's driver by ARY news. He has nearly 7 years of experience as the chief security officer at Islamia University.
A case was subsequently filed under Section 9(2)1 of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997 by the city police after they launched an investigation into the occurrence. According to the authorities, both of the accused's mobile phones had a number of sexist films featuring women.
According to reports, Shah, a former army major, acknowledged under questioning that the upsetting pictures and videos featured female students and employees from several departments at IUB.
Later on Friday, July 22, the Police allegedly conducted raids at the University to detain two more officials on the same charges. The other two detained individuals are Muhammad Altaf, in charge of transportation, and the director of finance Abu Bakar.Â
During the investigation, the two admitted to using drugs and watching films featuring offensive language regarding college girls.
The police also took custody of the two and arrested them in accordance with Section 9(2)1 of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997.
In a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Usman Anwar, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Athar Mehboob, demanded that the IG create a high-level inquiry committee to look into the arrests made as a result of the police action against the university officials.
The letter said that the charges against the officials were "bogus" and that IUB had a "zero tolerance policy for the use of illicit drugs as well as for sexual harassment or exploitation".
While this is going on, a committee has been established by the secretary of the South Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) to look into the claims that the chief security officer was "carrying/using the contraband substance" and that pornographic data had been found on his mobile phone. The report must be turned in within three days, per the secretary's request.
