Five people died in Jammu and Kashmir, including two Army jawans

In areas of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir for the third day in a row on Sunday, torrential rain and unseasonal snowfall resulted in at least five fatalities, including two Indian Army jawans.

The two jawans were swept away by flash floods in the Poonch area while attempting to cross a stream, according to a report in the news agency PTI.

It is important to note that snow fell in a number of locations in Ladakh, including Rangdum, Pensi La, and Zanskar in Kargil. However, there was severe rain in several areas of Jammu & Kashmir.

In the meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Ladakh region as well as portions of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kathua, Samba, and other lower catchment areas, for the upcoming 24 hours, stating that severe to very heavy rainfall is anticipated.

36 individuals who were stranded at various locations near the Ujh River owing to flash floods were rescued by the District Administration Kathua with the help of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF).

On the Leh-Srinagar national highway in Ladakh's Kargil area, a man perished when his car was crushed by a moving boulder.
