On Monday, there is expected to be heavy to very heavy rain in areas of north India, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and the Delhi-NCR region. The torrential downpour provided cooling from the heat but also resulted in waterlogging and traffic congestion, which were problematic for commuters. According to reports, 19 persons have died in rain-related incidents during the past three days in various parts of north India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Northwest India (Western Himalayan Region, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan) and light to moderate rainfall in West India (Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat), East and Northeast India (West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur), Central India (Madhya Pradesh) and South India (Coastal Karnataka and Kerala)from July 10 to July 12.
In Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Ludhiana, and Gurugram, schools, and institutions are closed due to the forecasted severe rainfall. Additionally, corporate organizations and private offices have been urged to implement work-from-home policies.
The Parvati River in Manikaran flooded as a result of the severe rainfall, while a bridge fell in Mandi. On the other hand, a rescue effort for six persons who were trapped in Nagwai as a result of the Beas River's rising water level as a result of nonstop rain is currently underway.
In Delhi's Rohini region, a sizable section of the road caved in as a result of the intense rains. While there have been reports of water leaking in several areas of the national capital, a market wall has collapsed in the Sunder Nagar neighbourhood.
Due to the heavy rain, an overbridge that connected three areas in Jammu and Kashmir washed away. The incident happened in the Dudu region of Udhampur.
Meanwhile, the Kathua District Administration has rescued 36 persons who were trapped at various locations close to the Ujh River as a result of flash floods.
