In Maharashtra, a baby falls from a grandfather's arms and into a gutter during a downpour

On Wednesday, a six-month-old baby fell from her grandfather's arms and into an overflowing drain between the Kalyan and Thakurli railway stations in Maharashtra. After the local train, they were riding in from Ambernath stopped owing to waterlogging, the mother of the newborn and the grandfather were strolling on the tracks.

The mother, Yogita Shankar Rumale, slipped and became stuck while carrying the child along the railway lines on Kalyan's Patri Bridge. In an effort to assist, the grandfather took up the baby, but in the pouring rain, the child slid from his arms and fell into the sewer beneath them.

The local train halted close to the Patri Bridge while the family was riding it back to Bhiwandi.

Authorities from the municipality and the railway police have started a search effort to find the infant. There have been no indicators of the baby thus far.

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, responded to the tragedy by advising people to stay inside unless absolutely necessary. All rescue teams, according to the chief minister, are on high alert and have been urged to make sure that no other unfortunate incidents happen.
