In order to prevent fraud and ensure high-quality work, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) issued a public notice on Friday seeking senior citizens from among retired military personnel and representatives of residents' welfare associations (RWA) to supervise any development or construction work that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is undertaking.
The deadline for submitting names, according to GMDA officials, is August 1. After that date, committees will be formed to oversee residential construction projects that fall within the purview of RWA members. Additionally, GMDA has provided a form and email for providing names and information. Officials stated that the joint chief executive officer of the GMDA might receive the information.
The decision, according to officials, was made during a recent meeting between the MCG and RWAs, as well as other stakeholders, to discuss development projects, desilting of clogged drains, prompt rubbish collection, and encroachment clearance. Several residents had complained about the contractor's subpar job.
PC Meena, the MCG commissioner and chairman of the GMDA, ordered that locals be hired to watch over the construction projects done by MCG contractors. Later, the scope was expanded to include GMDA contractors.
On July 25, the MCG determined that payments would only be made to private contractors for desilting sewer and drain lines following receipt of an acceptable report from the corresponding RWAs. Additionally, when submitting their bills, contractors were expected to include before and after images of the work area.
