Indian student in the US suffers homeless & hunger; mother asks help from S Jaishankar

A 37-year-old Indian woman who moved to the US to pursue her master's degree eventually struggled with depression and malnutrition when her possessions were taken. On Chicago's streets, the woman was seen.

The woman has been identified as Hyderabad native Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi. Her mother has requested that the minister of external affairs, S. Jaishankar, return her daughter to the family in a letter.

In the letter, Syeda Wahaj Fatima noted that her daughter had lost contact with them in the previous two months after moving to the US in August to pursue her master's in information science at TRINE University in Detroit.

Recently, two Hyderabadi youngsters noticed Syeda and told her family about the difficulties she was having.

"We learned that my daughter is suffering from severe depression and that all of her belongings have been taken, leaving her starving to death and wandering the streets of Chicago, USA. The Indian Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Indian Consulate in Chicago, USA, were cordially asked to intervene right away and send my daughter back to India as soon as possible, according to the letter.

BRS leader Khaleequr Rahaman posted the letter on Twitter.

She also requested assistance from the Chicago consulate and the Indian Embassy in the US in getting her daughter back home.
