The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reminded India numerous times because the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been slow to name a chief executive officer (CEO). On Thursday, a top IOC official requested that the procedure move more quickly in a conversation with IOA president PT Usha.
Jerome Poivey of the IOC's NOC relations department spoke to Usha and requested an update on the situation, according to an IOA official familiar with the development. "He specifically wanted to know what steps IOA has taken and how soon a CEO will be appointed," the official said.
Kalyan Chaubey, joint secretary of the IOA, is currently also serving as CEO. It was discovered that Usha has asked Chaubey to call an executive council meeting as soon as possible so that the CEO appointment problem can be discussed.
Although the newly elected IOA took office in December, the CEO position is currently open. The IOA executive council was supposed to name a CEO within a month in accordance with the IOA constitution, but that hasn't happened.
The world body has been pressuring IOA to execute its constitutional obligation in light of the IOC Session, which will be held in Mumbai from October 15–17.
IOC released a resounding statement following the executive board meeting held in Lausanne last month.
The NOC of India has repeatedly been instructed to complete the nomination of the new CEO/Secretary General as soon as possible in compliance with the NOC Constitution in order to restore order to the NOC. Unfortunately, the NOC hasn't finished the procedure yet. The IOC has stated that it will keep an eye on the situation.
