On social media, a video of a woman passenger requesting that a bus conductor from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) take off his skull cap while on duty went viral. The incident happened in the first week of July, and the woman can be seen repeatedly asking the Muslim conductor on the Shivaji Nagar-Uttarahalli line why he was wearing the skull cap while working. The video was taken by the woman herself.

The chief public relations officer of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), TS Latha, said that there are no set norms regarding religious identification when asked about the applicable regulations.Â
"The code of conduct for bus drivers and conductors was established decades ago, and since that time, it has not been altered or reviewed. The code does not encourage wearing identifiers, but it also does not forbid them, according to the speaker. She added that they are not conducting an investigation or seeking to identify the woman.
Many of the conductor's departmental coworkers at the BMTC appeared to be ignorant of the regulations when TheSwipeUp contacted them. A number of them firmly asserted that caps were not permitted while wearing uniforms.Â
Although he had been donning the cap for a long time, wearing a cap while wearing a uniform is strictly forbidden by our standards. None of the other Muslims who work here wear one, according to Shrikant, a bus driver. They did not, however, offer a BMTC circular or rule book that did so.
Others claimed that this occurrence was unprecedented and that wearing religious symbols has never seemed to be a problem. "What occurred is terribly unfortunate. He has been working hard and donning the skull cap for a long time. The viral video has really upset him, and this is the first time such an occurrence has occurred, according to Shahbaz (name changed), a police officer assigned to the Shanti Nagar bus depot.
