The Civil Court to Phugewadi metro route is now open to passengers thanks to approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). For the second stretch, which runs from Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) is awaiting the safety compliance certificate, which is anticipated in a few days.
Maha-Metro has finished the necessary work on both segments and is awaiting CMRS's certification of safety compliance after last week's completion inspections of the Civil Court to Phugewadi and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic stretches.
The Civil Court to Phugewadi metro stretch's CMRS safety compliance certificate was received, according to Hemant Sonawane, Maha-Metro's public relations officer.
The formal start date for passenger service on both stretches—from Phugewadi to Civil Court and from Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic—has been set for August 1, 2023, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic station (4.7km, 7 stations), and Phugewadi station to Civil Court station (6.9 km, 4 stations), are the newly constructed sections that are ready for use in commercial operations.
To verify their functionality and safety, the CMRS team assessed the metro stations. They examined escalators, elevators, ramps, and amenities for passengers with disabilities such as restrooms and signage. The team also conducted a mock drill to evaluate the preparedness of the employees at metro stations to manage emergencies and evacuate passengers as well as to test the fire prevention system, including smoke detection and fire alarms.
