Rainfall activity in Pune diminished during the past 24 hours after heavy periods

The city suffered a decrease in rainfall activity on July 26 after enjoying strong rains for almost 24 hours on July 25. However, numerous places experienced waterlogging as a result of the persistent rain.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for severe to very heavy rainfall on July 25 and 26 due to the active monsoon conditions over Maharashtra.

On July 25, the amount of rain increased after noon and persisted through the evening. On Wednesday, though, there was less precipitation. According to IMD statistics, the Lohegaon area received 6 mm of rain by 5:30 p.m. on July 26 while the Shivajinagar area recorded 3.2 mm of rain. There was widespread moderate rainfall in the ghat regions.

According to Anupam Kashyap, head of the meteorology and forecasting division at IMD Pune, "The monsoon is active in Maharashtra under the impact of several systems. Pune has received a good amount of rainfall in the ghat regions, as predicted. Despite the recent light to moderate rainfall in urban areas, the city still needs more intense rains to make up for the deficiency in precipitation.

Pune was hit by the southwest monsoon on June 25 this year. Following that, the metropolitan area had moderate showers while the ghat regions experienced significant rainfall. As a result, there has been a significant discrepancy between the district's normal and actual monsoon. The rainfall difference has leveled off today, over a month after the monsoon season began, according to IMD authorities.
