Red alert until afternoon on July 27 in Mumbai and its environs

Due to the predicted unusually heavy rain in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation declared on Thursday that all schools and colleges in Mumbai will be closed. This choice was made after the India Meteorological Department raised the alert level from 'orange' to 'red,' suggesting that Mumbai and its suburbs would see heavy rain beginning at 8 p.m. today and lasting till Thursday afternoon. The need to ensure the people's safety and well-being led to the precautionary decision to close educational institutions during this projected period of significant rainfall.

Since 12 o'clock, Mumbai has seen heavy to very heavy rains in several locations. The city saw an average rainfall of 76.45mm throughout the ten-hour period from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. A total of 58.01mm of rain fell on average in Mumbai's eastern suburbs during this time, compared to 70.43mm in the western suburbs. Numerous portions of the city have been considerably impacted by the rain, which is also likely to have caused waterlogging and other related problems in low-lying areas. To guarantee their safety during this period of heavy rain, residents are recommended to take the required precautions and be informed of the weather alerts issued by the authorities.
