In the new series Taali, which premieres on JioCinema on August 15, Sushmita Sen will portray Shreegauri Sawant in a never-before-seen form. The Saturday teaser offers a sneak preview of her valiant journey through challenges, resiliency, and success.
Taali will shed light on transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant's tenacious fight for the acceptance of the third gender in India. It was written by Kshitij Patwardhan, and produced by Arjun Singh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar (GSEAMS Production), and Afeefa Nadiadwala. It was created by Arjun Singh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar.
The teaser opens with Sushmita looking in the mirror while donning a sari and straightening her large bindi. On her cabinet, there is a picture of the legendary singer and gay icon Usha Uthup. The transgender community is then seen greeting Sushmita, who plays Shreegauri Sawant, and touching her feet.
Pune-born Shreegauri fled her home in her teens in order to not let her policeman father down. In 2000, she established the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust. The NGO encourages safe sex and offers counseling to the transgender population. She was the first transgender activist to submit a petition to the Supreme Court in support of transgender people's right to adoption in 2014.Â
Sushmita Sen last appeared in Season 2 of Ram Madhvani's thriller series on Disney+ Hotstar in 2021 as the title character, a housewife-turned-gangster named Aarya. She has finished filming Season 3, which will soon make its streaming platform debut. After having a heart arrest while filming Aarya Season 3, Sushmita took a break from acting. But following her recovery, she returned to filming the well-known program.
The 2010 Marathi musical Natarang, which won the 57th National Film Awards for Best Feature Film in Marathi, was Ravi Jadhav's directing debut. At the 62nd National Film Awards, his 2014 short film Mitraa took home the Silver Lotus Award for Best Short Fiction Film.
