In its most recent campaign against the few remaining opportunities for female work, the Taliban in Afghanistan outlawed beauty salons managed by women. According to Bloomberg, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue called for the immediate closure of all female-run beauty salons in Kabul and neighboring provinces.
"Violators will face legal action," it warned as the Taliban continued to force women to remain at home and out of conspicuous positions in society. The Taliban's earlier limitations, which forbade women from pursuing education past the sixth grade, working in either the public or private sector, or even going to parks or gyms, have consistently been denounced by the United Nations.
According to the UN, the world community now finds it "nearly impossible" to recognize the Taliban administration as a result of these laws discriminating against women. Women in Afghanistan can only currently find employment as nurses and doctors in hospitals.
Jamila Afghan, an Afghan women's rights activist who fled Afghanistan and now resides in Turkey, claimed that the Taliban do not view women as human beings but rather as a commodity to be owned and oppressed. The most recent prohibition "will affect thousands of makeup artists and close hundreds of beauty shops nationwide," she continued.
The men are jobless, cosmetics artist Raihan Mubariz told TOLO News. Women are compelled to work in beauty salons in order to get a loaf of bread while males are unable to provide for their families. What options do we have if they're prohibited there?

"Kabul resident Abdul Khabir told the publication, "The government should create a structure for it. The framework must be constructed such that neither Islam nor the nation will suffer.
