On Saturday morning, International Tiger Day, a 4-year-old tigress was discovered dead in the Dhela area of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), according to officials from Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.
The local villagers saw a tiger's body near the Dhela bridge and told the forest officials about it, according to the officials.
Although her body had been submitted for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death, officials sped to the scene. According to CTR director Dheeraj Pandey, the tigress looks to have been killed in a territorial dispute at first glance.
Around 8 a.m. on Saturday, we learned about the tigress's carcass. Primarily based on the injuries found on the tigress's body, it indicate that she may have died in a territorial battle. However, a postmortem was required to determine the precise reason for her death, according to Pandey.
At the beginning of the year, in February, a tigress was discovered dead in the CTR buffer zone.
The All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018, published in 2020, estimates that there are 442 tigers in Uttarakhand.
In the Himalayan state, the number of tigers increased from 178 in 2006 to 442 in 2018 (including 231 to 266 tigers in Corbett).
The Corbett Tiger Reserve had the greatest tiger density among India's 50 reserves, with 14 tigers per 100 sq km.
