In an August 1 visit to Pune, Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the cornerstone for a number of development projects, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday.
The Prime Minister will receive the Lokmanya Tilak National Award later, according to the announcement.
To honor Lokmanya Tilak's legacy, the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust established the Award in 1983. The honor is granted to those who have contributed to the nation's prosperity and development and whose work can only be described as unique and amazing. Every year on August 1st, the anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak's passing, it is presented.
"The Prime Minister will do Darshan and Pooja at Dagdusheth Mandir at around 11 AM. He will receive the Lokmanya Tilak National Award at 11:45. The Prime Minister will then flag off metro trains, inaugurate several development projects, and lay the cornerstone for them at 12:45, according to the announcement.
According to the announcement, the Prime Minister will flag off Metro trains to officially launch service along the two corridors of Pune Metro Phase I.
The stations in these segments are Phugewadi to Civil Court and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic, respectively. In 2016, the Prime Minister also laid the project's foundation stone.Â
The announcement said that the opening "is an important step towards realizing the Prime Minister's vision to provide the citizens with modern and environmentally friendly mass rapid urban transport systems throughout the country."
Some of the metro stations along the route were designed with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in mind. The distinctive designs of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan and Deccan Gymkhana metro stations are reminiscent of the "Mavala Pagadi" helmet worn by the warriors of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The statement said, "The Shivaji Nagar subterranean Metro station has a striking architecture that evokes the forts constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

A further distinctive quality is that the Civil Court metro station is one of the deepest in the nation, with the deepest point measuring 33.1 m. Direct sunlight falls on the platform due to the design of the station roof.
The Waste to Energy Plant run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be officially opened by the Prime Minister. It will generate power from roughly 2.5 lakh MT of waste per year and was developed at a cost of about 300 crores, it added.
