According to a survey by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the average asset per member of legislative assemblies in India is Rs. 13.63 crore, and those with stated criminal cases had higher assets (Rs. 16.36 crore) than those without criminal cases (Rs. 11.45 crore). The advocacy group examined 4,001 current members of the legislature from 28 state legislatures and two union territories.
The richest MLA in the nation is Congress' D K Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, who has registered assets worth Rs. 1,413 crore. By contrast, a West Bengal-based BJP MLA has only declared assets worth Rs. 1,700. Priyakrishna, a Congress MLA, has the highest disclosed liabilities at Rs. 881 billion.
