Yogi says the mosque in Gyanvapi is a "historical mistake" since the walls are screaming

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has spoken on the controversy surrounding the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and recommended that the Muslim community should provide a solution for the "historical mistake." Yogi Adityanath, who is also the chief priest of Gorakhnath Mutt in Gorakhpur, claimed in a podcast with ANI Editor Smita Prakash that the walls of Gyanvapi are "screaming" and naming it a mosque will lead to "dispute"

"There will be a disagreement if we label it a mosque. I believe that whoever God has blessed with sight should be able to see. What on earth does a trishul (trident) do in a mosque? It wasn't placed there by us. The chief minister remarked, "There is a jyotirlinga, dev pratimas (idols).

"The walls are shouting and communicating. I believe the Muslim community should make a suggestion that there has been a historical error and that a solution is required.

Prior to the Allahabad High Court's decision on a petition challenging a lower court judgment for the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey to ascertain whether the mosque was built upon a temple, Adityanath made a statement about the Gyanvapi mosque.

The high court further mandated that the ASI survey be suspended until August 3. The court was hearing Anjuman Intezamia Masjid's request on behalf of the mosque's management.

The Varanasi district court ordered ASI to conduct a thorough survey of the plot where the mosque stands next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple using dating, excavation, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) techniques on July 21, despite the fact that the dispute has existed for decades. The judge did, however, omit a portion that has been sealed since a Supreme Court decision in May 2022, where the Muslim side alleges the construction is part of a fountain and the Hindu side believes a Shivling was unearthed.

The survey was conducted by ASI for approximately four and a half hours on July 24 before being halted by the Supreme Court the next day to allow petitioners to transfer to Allahabad High Court.
