YSRCP chooses to back the NDA on the Delhi services bill

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has made the decision to support the Narendra Modi administration when it introduces the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, to amend a law that cedes authority over the governmental apparatus of the national capital to the Centre.

YSR Congress Party leader and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy informed his MPs of his decision last weekend, while leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been personally meeting with representatives of all parties to urge them to vote against the bill because it threatens the legitimacy of the elected Delhi government.

Other YSR Congress lawmakers who wished to remain anonymous informed HT that the party didn't feel comfortable siding with the Congress. Former Congressman and current party leader YS Jagan Reddy is the son of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajsekhara Reddy. After his father's passing in 2009, Jagan had a disagreement with the established party about his father's legacy and was denied the right to organize a statewide yatra. After that, Jagan was imprisoned for a number of years due to a corruption investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The YSR MP asked, unwilling to be recognized, "If we speak of federal structure, hasn't Congress also violated it many times in the past."
