A 15-year-old girl is believed to have been abducted on her way to school and raped in Rohtak, Haryana, police said Sunday.
Three people have been arrested in the case and a manhunt is underway for a fourth, they said, adding that she was abducted and taken in a car to a hotel on Friday.
Sampla Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rakesh Kumar said the driver of the car was quite large and the defendants ranged in age from 21 to 32.
Police said a case was registered under sections of the Child Protection Against Sex Crimes Act.
DSP said one of the defendants knew the girl and he blocked her way when she went to school. Police said she was threatened with serious consequences if she raised the alarm.
The girl contacted her family from the hotel and then filed a complaint with the police. The girl was hospitalized after the incident, they said.
Former Haryana Minister and Opposition Council Leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday demanded stern action against the perpetrators. The police must act sensitively and quickly in this case, he said. In a statement, the parliamentary leader said the government should ensure prompt justice for the victim through an expedited court.
Hooda has asked Parliament Rohtak MLA BB Batra to extend all possible assistance to the victim's family.
Batra met the victim at the hospital and also spoke to family members. He assured them of all possible help.
He said the victim was severely traumatized and needed counseling and treatment. Meanwhile, Hooda claims that crimes against women continue to increase in the state. "Statistics from the NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) show four to five rapes and dozens of kidnappings recorded every day in Haryana," he said.
