He said the GST Council has decided to levy a 28% tax on online gambling at face value while some states require total gambling revenue as a criterion for GST collection.
“The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has always maintained its stance on taxing online gambling,” Khanna said. He said it was ridiculous to have 5% GST on flour and 3% on online games. He said the 28% GST tax on online gambling is not a problem for ordinary people and only affects the wealthy class. Khanna said the Uttar Pradesh government levies the lowest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. The state government imposes a VAT of ₹15.08 per liter for gasoline and ₹12.76 per liter for diesel.
