7 dead and 90 injured in new Russian missile attack on Ukraine  


Seven people, including a 6-year-old baby, were killed and 90 injured when a Russian missile hit the central square in the historic city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday. Seven.

The ministry said people were going to the church to celebrate a religious holiday when the strike took place, adding that the 12 injured were children and 10 were policemen.

"A Russian missile hit the center of the city, in our Chernihiv. A square, a polytechnic, a theater," said President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is visiting and working in the city. Sweden, said on Telegram.

“An ordinary Saturday, which Russia has turned into a day of pain and loss,” he added. A short video accompanying Zelenskiy's post showed debris strewn across the square outside the regional theater, where parked cars were badly damaged. The video also shows a body lying flat inside a car.

Chernihiv is a city of tree-lined boulevards and centuries-old churches about 145 kilometers (90 mi) north of the capital Kyiv. The Home Office said the roof of the theater was destroyed during the strike.

Russia has attacked Ukrainian towns far from the front lines with missiles and drones as part of the invasion it launched last February. The Kyiv Air Force said on Saturday morning that the Ukrainian military shot down 15 of 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Moscow in a night attack.
