81 dead in rain fury in Himachal, Uttarakhand, flash floods in Punjab, rescue actions on

 


In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, constant rains and landslides resulted in 81 fatalities, while rescue efforts for the injured and body recovery from rubble from several house collapses were ongoing.

As more remains were found on Wednesday, the death toll in Himachal Pradesh, which had been lashed by rain, increased to 71. "In the last three days, at least 71 individuals have died, and 13 more remain missing. Since Sunday night, a total of 57 bodies have been found, according to Principal Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma, according to news agency PTI.

Since Sunday, the hill state has seen torrential rains that have caused landslides in a number of districts, including Shimla, where three neighborhoods—Summer Hill, Fagli, and Krishna Nagar—have been particularly seriously affected.

Since the start of the monsoon on June 24, 214 individuals have perished in rain-related accidents across the state, while 38 remain missing, according to the state emergency operation center.

Four bodies, including those of a couple and their son, were found among the wreckage at a resort in Lakshman Jhula, Uttarakhand, that had a landslip on Monday as a result of heavy rain.

The SSP Office in Pauri reported that two bodies were found late on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday.

With the discovery of these four remains, the death toll from rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand has increased to 10.

Punjab is currently experiencing new floods, with numerous regions in the districts of Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, and Rupnagar inundated as a result of the release of extra water from the Pong and the Bhakra dams.

According to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state administration is closely monitoring the situation, and relief and rescue efforts are underway in the flood-affected areas. He also noted that the water levels in the Bhakra and Pong dams are 1,677 feet and 1,398 feet, respectively.
