An official announced on Friday that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had detained a second Tamil Nadu resident in connection with the LTTE resurrection conspiracy case involving illegal narcotics and weapon trade in Sri Lanka and India.
The 14 people detained thus far in the case include Lingam A alias "Adi Lingam," a significant conspirator, according to a federal agency official.
The NIA filed the unlawful narcotics and weaponry trade case in July of last year.
Lingam, a native of Chennai, was a close friend and Benami for Gunasekharan's unlawful business dealings involving the laundering of the "proceeds of the drug and arms trade" in India and Sri Lanka.
In an effort to legalize the racket's members' unlawful presence in India, the spokesperson said that Lingam had also falsified identity cards for them.
According to the official, all of the defendants in the case were actively engaged in the illegal drug trade in Sri Lanka and India.
The spokesperson claimed that "they were using the money made from the drug trade to fund the acquisition and amassing of weapons for the revival of the LTTE in the two countries."
According to the official, the investigations have shown that the illegal drugs came from Haji Salim, a fugitive who is thought to be based in Pakistan.
