A Congressman in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, offered a monetary prize of Rs. 10 lakh to anyone who could sever the tongue of Swami Prasad Maurya, the head of the Samajwadi Party (SP), who recently sparked controversy by declaring that "Hinduism is a hoax."
Ganga Pandit The SP leader was charged with disrespecting Hinduism and disparaging the religious text Ramcharitmanas, according to Ram Sharma, the chairman of the Congress' Human Rights Department in Moradabad. On social media, his letter announcing the prize has gone viral.
In a post earlier this week on X (formerly Twitter), Maurya called Hinduism "deceitful" and "a hoax." Additionally, he asserted that all social "disparities" are a result of Brahminism.
"Brahminism has very deep roots, and it is also the cause of all the differences. Hinduism is a fabrication; there is no such thing as a Hindu religion. There is a scheme to trap the Dalits, tribals, and backward people of this country by calling the same Brahmin religion as the Hindu faith. Tribals, Dalits, and those from lower socioeconomic classes would have all been revered if there had been a Hindu religion, but what irony, he remarked.
The SP leader proposed a ban on the Hindu sacred scripture Ramcharitmanas in January of this year, calling it "nonsense." He claimed that Tulsidas created the text for his own satisfaction and that Ramcharitmanas assigned the low caste of "Shudras" to the text.
The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, disassociated itself from Maurya's comments when they drew considerable criticism.
Manoj Kumar Pandey, the head of the SP, stated on Monday that Maurya's comments do not represent the viewpoint of the party. He chastised Maurya for exploiting religion to "revive his political career."
