According to a media report, prominent American conservative media commentator and author Ann Coulter is receiving criticism for dubbing two Indian-American candidates for the US presidency, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, "Hindu business" in a racist manner.
Coulter referred to a contentious argument between former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy during Wednesday night's first Republican presidential debate as "Hindu business," according to NBC News on Thursday.
Nikki and Vivek seem to be involved in some Hindu business, Coulter, 61, tweeted on the social media platform X.
Tricia McLaughlin, Ramaswamy's senior adviser and director of communications, said that Coulter may tweet whatever she wanted on Thursday, which led to outrage.
In her tweet, McLaughlin stated that "Ann can tweet whatever she wants to."
She continued, "Vivek shares and embodies the Judeo-Christian principles upon which this country was established, and the way he conducts his family life serves as a model for their own children and grandchildren."
Haley, 51, was born into a Sikh household and is a Christian, which she has made a point of stating in the public eye. Ramaswamy, 38, is a Hindu.
According to the source, the contentious debate Coulter seemed to be alluding to was not even about religion but rather US aid to Ukraine and Israel.
Coulter's remark has drawn criticism from both liberals and conservatives.
An anonymous user responded to Coulter's racial remark by tweeting: "Nikki Haley was born Sikh and is a practising Christian, you racist troglodyte."
In "Desis Divided: The Political Lives of South Asian Americans" author Sangay Mishra stated: "Completely expected that she would attack them but using a white racist trope invoking a religion is beyond disgusting."
Coulter's racial remarks regarding Haley have made headlines before throughout this election campaign.
She received criticism in February for asking Haley to "go back to your own country" during a longer rant on a podcast.
