An elderly retired teacher from Maine fights off a home intruder, then feeds him snacks in her kitchen. Marjorie Perkins, 87, then called the police, according to local reports.
Marjorie was sleeping in her bedroom at her home in Brunswick when a man entered her home last week. She woke up at around 2 a.m. to find someone above her.
Marjorie told News Center Maine: “I woke up and saw a man standing by my bed telling me he was going to cut me. She jumped out of bed and put on her shoes, trying to decide how she would defend herself. "I was like, 'If he's going to cut, I'll kick. So I jumped in my shoes,'" Marjorie, who lives alone, told The Times Record.
The home intruder, who was also a teenager, is said to have pushed her against a wall and started beating her. Marjorie shoots him back. She grabbed a chair to use as a shield and continued to scream for help. “He kept punching and pushing me,” Marjorie said.
The teen then stopped fighting and entered Marjorie's kitchen, despite being told by her to leave the house immediately. "He said he was terribly hungry and hadn't eaten in a long time," Marjorie said. "And I said, 'Well, here's a box of peanut butter and honey cookies. You can have this whole box. I gave her two boxes of Ensure and I gave her two tangerines.
"Don't sit and cry about it"
The intruder ate in Marjorie's kitchen, as she dialed 911 on her dialing phone "as fast as she could". Although the teen had left before the police arrived, a police dog followed him to where he lived. The teen was charged with theft, criminal intimidation, assault, and underage drinking. He allegedly brought a water bottle full of alcohol when he broke into Marjorie's home. He is currently being held at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
Marjorie later reveals that she knew the intruder when he mowed the lawn as a child. She thinks he's about 17 years old now. He did a great job,” she said. "I hope he gets help."
Marjorie, a former elementary school teacher and dance instructor, believes the boy entered her home by pushing aside the screen next to her window air conditioner. He finally climbed over the gap. Of her terrifying ordeal, she said, "Don't sit around and cry about it... Get ready to kick and pick up a chair and hit someone with it."
