A local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and three other people have been accused by the Rajasthan Police of gang-raping a woman and abusing her young daughter in Pali.
In her complaint, the 42-year-old woman said that she had visited Sojat a month earlier and met BJP leader Mohan Jat to discuss a transaction for a block of land in a residential development. Mahesh Chandak, a businessman, two women, and the BJP politician were also in the area.
She said that Mohan Jat and Mahesh Chandak sexually abused her and molested her young daughter with the help of the ladies.
The survivors have undergone medical evaluations, and the police have opened an inquiry.
On Monday, local Congress leaders protested in front of the Sojat police station and demanded that Mohan Jat be taken into custody right away. The BJP politician responded by leaving his position on "moral grounds".
"The accusations brought against me through a political plot are wholly unfounded. I have complete confidence in the legal system. I am resigning from my position as a result, up until my innocence is established.
