Posters of 'PayCS' with a QR Code targeting state Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy for suspected corruption appeared in public spaces in the district headquarters town of Mandya on Thursday, taking inspiration from the Karnataka Congress unit's campaign before the Assembly election.
The posters were taken down by the police, who also apprehended several people they claimed to be BJP members.
Both the JD(S) and the opposition BJP have distanced themselves from the "poster campaign," saying they have nothing to do with it and that it is a "people's movement." On Thursday, several posters featuring Chaluvarayaswamy images and QR codes appeared in public areas, according to police sources.
The 'PayCS' poster accuses Chaluvarayaswamy, the minister in charge of the Mandya district, of taking bribes in a manner reminiscent of the UPI app PayTM, which the Congress party had mocked in its 'PayCM' campaign targeting then-Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai prior to the Assembly elections. "PayCS, six to eight lakh rupees accepted here," the billboard stated. To make Chaluvaraya Swamy pay for the Karnataka Congress, scan this QR code. For every transfer agreement, PAYCS KARO!"\
It's not a BJP campaign, Mandya BJP District President C P Umesh told PTI. I learned that some young people who were allegedly BJP workers had been arrested. Although we are not implicated, I still need to learn more about the arrest. Mandya's citizens have protested against the minister.Â
According to a JD(S) leader, his party is not involved in the election. The Mandya Congress unit is plagued by several issues. He told PTI that it may be the sole product of these individuals.
In a recent letter to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, seven assistant directors of the agricultural department in Mandya are said to have accused Minister Chaluvarayaswamy of seeking between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh through the joint director. The Governor sent it to Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma and requested that she take the necessary steps.
