Court Update: Gujarat High Court transfers Kejriwal's case, Day 12 of Article 370 hearing, and more

On Day 12 of the hearing on the repeal of Article 370, while Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud was asking the Centre for a variety of clarifications, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that Jammu and Kashmir would no longer be a UT and that he would respond to all the questions on August 31. Arvind Kejriwal, the mayor of Delhi, has had his revision plea forwarded to a new judge by the Gujarat High Court in the PM Modi degree matter. This Tuesday's court update includes all of the following:

The government would reinstate Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) statehood, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday, although Ladakh will continue to be a Union Territory.

In response to inquiries from the Constitution Bench chaired by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on the 12th day of hearings on a group of petitions contesting the repeal of Article 370, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated, "I have taken instructions. Union Territory is not meant to be a long-term feature, according to the instructions. However, I'll make a resounding proclamation the day after tomorrow, on August 31. Ladakh will continue to be a part of the Union.

Tuesday, the Gujarat High Court ordered the revision application for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to be transferred by the Principal Sessions Judge at the Ahmedabad City Civil Court. The application relates to a defamation suit brought by Gujarat University over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's academic credentials.

The case must be decided by the newly assigned court within 10 days after its redistribution, according to Justice J. Samir Dave. The court rejected the applications filed by Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, the head of the Aam Aadmi Party, requesting the suspension of the trial during the application appeal process.

A notable step is the official appointment of former Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana to the International Mediation Panel of the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC). On Tuesday in Singapore, George Lim, the SIMC's chairman, personally gave Justice Ramana the letter of appointment. The celebration highlights both the illustrious career of the retired jurist and India's rising influence in international legal circles.
