The Karur police in Tamil Nadu nabbed four people in relation to the assault on a 14-year-old Dalit student and his grandmother.
On Friday, August 25, while riding in a government bus, the victim, a Class 10 student from Uppidimangalam Government School in Alliyakavundanur, got into a verbal altercation with a student from an upper caste.

The following day, when the student from the upper caste and his companions went to the home of the Dalit student and assaulted him and his grandmother Kaliyammal, the incident took a despicable turn. On social media, a video of the incident has gone viral.
According to the victim, the upper-caste student was enraged because he had laughed at a joke told by a buddy.
"On the bus, I was pummeled. When 20 people encircled us, called me by my caste name, and started assaulting me and my grandma, I alerted my uncle and made the decision to contact the police, the Dalit student who is receiving therapy stated.
In connection with the assault on the Dalit student, Karur police have detained two students, Ilango and Manikandan, as well as two children, and have opened an inquiry.
This is the second time in Tamil Nadu that students from the upper caste have attacked a Dalit student.
A Nanguneri Dalit kid was attacked in his home on August 9 purportedly for speaking out against the abuse of his upper-caste classmates.
