Delhi man kills friend after falling in love with his wife, arrested

A 31-year-old butcher has been arrested for allegedly killing the husband of her unrequited love in the Sadar Bazar area, north of Delhi, police said on Saturday.

They said Mohammad Aamir, of Ahata-Kidara, was arrested for killing a man named Sameer during a drunken brawl.

His co-conspirator, Mohammad Rizwan, was previously arrested in connection with Tuesday's incident.

Police received a call on Tuesday about a man lying injured in a pool of blood on Chamelian Road in the Sadar Bazar area, an officer said.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the man stabbed in the right neck with a broken bottle next to it. They rushed him to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where he died from excessive bleeding, they said.

The victim's identity is revealed when someone calls his phone. Police said the man turned out to be Mohammad Sameer, 32, a resident of Sultanpuri.

The officer said he appeared to have been hit by a broken wine bottle found near the scene with blood stains.

During the investigation, CCTV footage showed two people riding motorbikes near the crime scene, he said. The blurred images show a man whose figure matches the profile picture of one of the people who called Sameer on WhatsApp.

On Tuesday, with the help of local intelligence agencies, police arrested a man identified as Mohammad Aamir.

Amir, during interrogation, revealed that it was his plan to kill Sameer and also revealed the identity of his accomplice, said Rizwan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi.

Rizwan was arrested in Brahmpuri, northeast of Delhi on Wednesday. The clothes the two were wearing at the time of the crime were recovered from Yamuna Bank, the DCP said. In his confession, Aamir told the police that he was a close friend of Sameer as they were both born and raised in Ahata-Kidara. He says he is married and has a son, but his wife left him last year and now lives with his parents in Aligarh in UP, Kalsi said.

Sameer's marriage was also in trouble because he didn't have a job and the couple often quarreled. Sameer has been living in his wife's house in Sultanpuri with her family since 2016, which also contributed to the discord between them, the DCP said.

Police say Aamir loved Sameer's wife and planned the whole crime, and joined Rizwan to kill Sameer. Since the two friends often drank together, on Tuesdays they also bought wine at Chamelian Street and started drinking on the corner of Chamelian Street behind the fire station.

A fight broke out between them and Rizwan attacked Samir in the neck with a broken glass bottle, then fled with Aamir, police added.
