Delhi officer, wife arrested. Accused of raping a girl, giving abortion pills  


A senior official from the Department of Women and Child Development was arrested Monday for allegedly raping his friend's 14-year-old daughter (now 17) for several months and getting her pregnant. The official's wife, accused of giving the survivor an abortion pill, was also arrested.

Delhi government officials were also suspended from work on the orders of Premier Arvind Kejriwal.

The defendant allegedly raped the girl several times between November 2020 and January 2021, when she was 14.

Delhi Police have also filed an FIR against the accused and his wife for rape under the Protection of Children from Sex Crimes Act (POCSO). The woman was charged with giving him medication to abort the pregnancy.

According to a DCP (North) Sagar Singh statement, an FIR has been registered under the Pocso Act on survivor claims.

“The survivor said she began living with a family friend, her guardian, after her father passed away between October 2020 and February 2021. She was taken by her uncle. sexual harassment, physical assault, and repeated rape. House. The survivor started having episodes of anxiety and was admitted to the hospital a week ago," the police official said. He added that the girl spoke to doctors about being sexually abused after receiving thorough counseling. “She said she had a panic attack after the defendant and his wife had an abortion. DCP Singh said a medical examination has been conducted and an investigation is ongoing.

“Details will be revealed after recording the minutes before the judge. The survivor is still recovering and receiving care. She is a minor and a student," the senior police official said.

He added that the girl was being treated in the hospital. DCP Singh said: “After recording the FIR, we applied to the court on the second day to record the girl's testimony before the judge, but the doctor refused her permission, saying she was not at home. in a normal state of mind”.

Delhi Women's Commission Chairman Swati Maliwal criticized the "slow pace" of the case and questioned why the police had yet to arrest the accused.

“A government official as deputy director of the Department of Women and Child Development in Delhi has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl. The police have yet to arrest him. Delhi Police are making an announcement regarding this matter. A man who is supposed to keep the girls safe turns out to be a predator. Where should the girls go? Arrest will happen soon!", she wrote on Twitter.
