The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) declared that, despite the administration's denial of their request for permission, they will nonetheless carry out their planned yatra in Nuh, Haryana, on August 28. The general secretary of the VHP, Surendra Jain, declared on Saturday that authorization is "not required" for religious processions.
Surendra Jain questioned, "Does anyone take permission to offer Namaz, for Tazia, or for Hanuman Jayanti?" He added that the administration would be made aware of the procession.
The G20 Sherpa Group meeting in Nuh from September 3 to 7 and the need to maintain peace and order in the wake of the violence that broke out during a VHP yatra on July 31 were both reasons given by the district administration for refusing permission for the yatra.
In advance of the yatra, the Haryana government had previously ordered the suspension of mobile Internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh from August 26 to 28. On those days, the district administration also made the decision to enact prohibitory measures in accordance with Section 144 of the CrPC.
According to the police, preparations have been made in light of the planned yatra.
In the meantime, Surendra Jain claimed on Saturday that "certain people were carrying weapons" during the religious procession, about a month after violence erupted in Nuh during a VHP yatra. The police, he continued, were "nowhere to be seen" during the four hours that the violence occurred.
"We will make sure that nobody carries any weapons this time," Jain continued.
The fights that broke out in Nuh on July 31 resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two home guards and a cleric.
