Ex-Meta worker recounts receiving termination notices at 4 am and that it was her darkest fear

In March of this year, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, declared its intention to let go of 10,000 more workers. The corporation had let go of 11,000 workers by 2022. Since the news of the layoffs at Meta first broke, hundreds of families all across the world have been touched. Many former Meta coworkers used LinkedIn to discuss their layoff stories and look for new opportunities. Others claimed they learned of their layoff in the early hours of the morning, while some claimed they were fired while on maternity leave.

One such former Meta employee posted about her experience on LinkedIn, stating that even though being let go was her "worst fear," she was really looking forward to the next professional chapter of her life when she received the news.

An employee of Meta loses job at 4:00 AM

The woman said in a LinkedIn article about how she learned of her termination: "The morning of the April round of #metalayoffs I was, inevitably, refreshing my inbox at 4am. There were thousands of people affected by the layoffs that day, and there will be more. It had been my worst nightmare on the outside. Like many of us who grew up all too conscious of our family's money worries, I meticulously plan out my life.

The woman did, however, add that when she eventually learned about her layoff, she didn't feel afraid but was rather eager for her alternate career (which had been on her mind for a long time).

"However, the fear I was expecting didn't materialize when I saw the email informing me that I was affected. It was replaced by a low-key excitement. I had been discreetly considering a new career that would have required a radical change in the business and for which I could never have quit my current position. I got a gut feeling that I had to take advantage of this opportunity, she continued.

the change to a different profession

She continued by saying that she used to hang out with her father when he worked as a carpenter. She stated, "My first memories are of traveling around the Berkeley hills as he pointed out home after home that he had built, or of exploring skeletal constructions, weaving among half-framed studs and mounting exposed steps.

But a year after purchasing their own house, her parents lost it as a result of financial issues. The woman then revealed that she intended to pursue a lucrative job when she was just 13 years old.

"When I was 13 years old, I developed an obsession with pursuing a successful career. The nicest part of that employment was what it enabled me to do; at age 24, I put the smallest down payment ever—every single dollar I had—down on my first house. Two years later, I sold it and used the proceeds to put a down payment on my new house. Even though I loved my job as a tech, it was only a means to a goal. All I've ever wanted is a wonderful house to live in with my family, she stated.
