In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red and orange alert, additional landslides and persistent rains claimed the lives of 13 more people.
Twelve people lost their lives in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday as a result of cloudbursts and landslides brought on by heavy rain. According to officials, numerous homes were damaged and over 400 additional roads were closed.
RED ALERT FOR HIMACHAL RAINS IN SIX DISTRICTS
In six districts of the state, including Shimla, the IMD issued a red alert, foreseeing "heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rains" during the course of the following 24 hours. In the meantime, nine districts, including Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan, and Bilaspur.
After the Kullu-Mandi road was damaged by excessive rain on Wednesday, hundreds of vehicles were left stranded in the Kullu area. Also damaged was the other route via Pandoh. Work to remove debris was in progress.
According to information from the state emergency operation center, the impacted highways include National Highway 21 (Mandi-Kullu road) and NH 154 (Mandi-Pathankot).
Following three significant bouts of heavy rain that left a trail of devastation and death, a total of 709 roadways in the state are currently closed. As a precaution, individuals are being evacuated from many homes because they have developed cracks.
Up to 120 people have perished in rain-related accidents in Himachal Pradesh this month, bringing the state's death toll from the monsoon season to 238 overall, with 40 still missing.

UTTARAKHAND RIVERS SWELL, ROAD BLOCKED
Following heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the water levels of the Pindar River and its tributary Pranmati in Chamoli district increased once more, posing a concern of flooding for areas near their banks.
In the majority of the state, rivers and streams are in spate as a result of persistent rain, and many roads, including national highways, were blocked for traffic, disrupting daily life.
