Two brothers, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, who are charged with financial fraud totaling more than Rs 30,000 crore, have been seen living a life of luxury inside the walls of Taloja Central Jail, which is situated outside of Mumbai. The Wadhawan brothers, who served as the Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited's promoters, were detained on suspicion of defrauding a number of banks.
However, India Today TV's cameras have documented how the Wadhawan brothers were able to plan a number of outings while posing as patients for medical exams at Mumbai's public hospitals. The shocking images imply that the Wadhawan brothers are leading a life that is very different from what one would typically see in a prison.
Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, who were once well-known characters in Mumbai's business community, were observed having in-depth conversations about family and business issues in the parking lots of several hospitals in Mumbai.
They may be observed engaging in a variety of activities in the parking lots of hospitals while being escorted by police, including eating together, drinking coffee, using mobile devices, and taking care of paperwork.
In a criminal conspiracy case, the Wadhawan brothers are charged with defrauding a group of 17 banks out of a total of Rs 34,610 crore. Several organizations, including the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation, are looking into the situation.
Investigations have uncovered information on their peculiar excursions. Kapil Wadhawan departed Taloja Prison on August 7 for the KEM Hospital in Mumbai, reportedly for a required medical checkup. He was observed going to the hospital's parking area, where he saw friends and family and also accessed his personal vehicle.
Two days later, Dheeraj Wadhawan went through the same motions again, leaving Taloja Prison for a similar "health check-up" at JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
Police bodyguards for the Wadhawan brothers are seen providing snacks to them as part of this lavish scene.
The Wadhawans ran into legal difficulty in 2020 when they traveled to Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai with a party of 20 people, purportedly to avoid scrutiny in the Yes Bank case, in violation of the national pandemic lockdown.
