In Mexico City, unidentified criminals shot and killed one Indian national, and they also injured another during a robbery. The Indian authorities have urged their Mexican counterparts to quickly find and detain the criminals.
The incident happened on Saturday when two unidentified Indian nationals were targeted by armed offenders who made off with a sizeable sum of USD 10,000. El Universal newspaper said that the event happened not far from the Mexico City International Airport.
According to a story by El Pais, the two men were returning after visiting a currency exchange to buy $10,000 when four men on two motorcycles approached them and demanded that they halt their car.
The co-pilot said that they were stopped at their destination by people riding two motorcycles after they had left an airport exchange house. They then started firing shots and stole the money from them against their will, according to the Secretariat of Citizen Security, as reported by El Pais.
According to the report, one of the victims died as a result of gunshot wounds received during the heist, while the other received on-site medical care and survived the incident unharmed.
The Indian embassy in Mexico has expressed sincere grief and sadness and promised the families of the victims its unshakable assistance. The embassy stated in a statement issued on Sunday: "In an incredibly sad and heartbreaking occurrence, an Indian person living in Mexico has tragically been shot and killed.Â
In a Monday update, the embassy stated, "The Embassy is in constant contact with the law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible and give justice to the family of the victim. This extremely regrettable and tragic death of an Indian national was shot by unknown assailants in Mexico City.
The Capital Prosecutor's Office has opened an inquiry into the homicide of the Indian national who perished on Viaducto, working closely with the Indian Embassy.
