Due to her tree-planting initiative, Saalumarada Thimmakka, who saw more than a hundred springs, is referred to as the Tree Mother of India. 112-year-old Thimakka has so far planted more than 8,000 trees. 385 banyan trees have also been planted by Thimakka in addition to 8000 seedlings.

How did the trip start?

Despite being in her fourth decade, Thimmakka had never given birth, and as a result, she frequently faced jeers. She was unable to have children, which left her feeling incredibly disappointed. She contemplated suicide as a result of how bad things were getting. However, she was helped by her husband to get involved in a new campaign. The program includes planting trees.

She started focusing on planting trees gradually and never stopped. He spent 65 years of his life cultivating trees. She started planting the banyan tree and other trees since she loved them.

Padma Shri awardee:

2019 saw the awarding of the Padma Shri to Thimmakka, better known as Vriksha Mata, for her achievements. The Karnataka administration, which is headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, last year appointed Thimmakka to the cabinet. She was chosen to be the ambassador for the environment. Thimmakka received the National Civilian Award in 1995. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.
