After an 11-month hiatus due to a stress fracture in his lower back, India's fast pitcher Jasprit Bumrah is poised for a triumphant return to action. Bumrah will feature in the T20I series against Ireland, marking his long-awaited return since September 2022.
Carrying out a training schedule in preparation for the Asian Cup and the ODI World Cup - events that require intense training time for people over 50 - Bumrah is more eager and determined than ever. During his recovery, Bumrah trained a lot, as he focused on day-long matches rather than short-term T20 matches.
“We know that there is no Test cricket before the ODI World Cup. Also, during my detox, I wasn't prepared for a T20 match. I'm always preparing for the World Cup competition," Bumrah said at the first pre-T20I press conference against Ireland.
"I've been bowling 10, 12 and even 15 rounds. So I've been bowling more rounds, that way it's easier when we need less bowling. We always keep that in mind when preparing. for a one-day contest rather than for a four-on-one competition. I have a lot of overs under my belt. You have to keep making progress. Where do you start, You're a bit frustrated and you're still making progress."
The bowler star, who will captain India's T20I team against Ireland, noted that he has 'a lot of outstanding track record' and is ready to continue the promotion he left almost unfinished. A year ago. Away from the game for the longest period of his career, the 29-year-old insists he is not overwhelmed by expectations but is delighted to be embracing the sport he loves.
"I don't really think about expectations. I just want to go out and enjoy the game after a long break. I've never been away from the game for so long. I will come back to enjoy it because I love this game," he said.
Bumrah also mentions that his method of preparation hasn't changed; he trained diligently at the National Cricket Academy. "I'm still the same person (the me of 11 months ago). I've always had a lot of faith. I understand that I will be back after a long break. I am very happy to be back. I worked very hard at NCA. The road has been long. The body feels good and looks forward to competing," he said.
