Jasprit Bumrah is set to pass a tough test as India takes on Ireland in a three-match T20I series. The Indian speed racer hasn't had the best time in the past 12 months, struggling with injuries.
He hasn't played cricket since India's home T20I against Australia. In addition to missing the T20 World Championship 2022, he also missed the bus to the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, to which India lost 209 runs. before Kennington Oval.
Now that the Asian Cup and World Cup are approaching, Bumrah can't make another mistake. The fact that he is the captain of the series is an additional responsibility for the tempo driver.
Bumrah has built such a reputation that every time he steps on the pitch, he is expected to perform well. But since he's back from a break, it wouldn't be surprising if he looked a little tired, at least at the first T20I, which is scheduled for Friday, August 18 at The Village in Dublin.
Ireland is a tough team to beat at home and last year they put India on the edge to win. The home side has a strong middle order, consisting of the likes of Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, and George Dockrell. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie are two of the veterans.
Therefore, Bumrah will have to try her best to reap the rewards against the Irish giants. However, the setter has experience bowling with Ireland. In June 2018 he finished 4-0-19-2, eliminating Stirling as one of his chosen players.
Bumrah currently holds the record as India's fastest pitcher to pick up 50 batting in the T20Is, although Arshdeep Singh is set to beat him. India has yet to announce its squad for the 2023 Asian Cup which will be hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Bumrah must be eager to show that he's fit enough to compete in the multi-national event and the World Cup as well.
