Kangana Ranaut would not support Javed Akhtar's modification request, and there is no instant relief

The Mumbai Trial Court in Dindoshi has refused to grant an immediate halt to proceedings in the case filed by actor Kangana Ranaut against Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar. The court said it would have to hear arguments from both sides about the merits of the case before making a decision on adjournment.

Akhtar's plea, filed through attorney Jay Bharadwaj, challenged the order to bring proceedings against him by the Andheri Magistrates Court for Kangana Ranaut's claim, alleging that he had " lack of application of the spirit of justice".

During the hearing, attorneys Vrinda Grover and Bharadwaj requested a pause in the proceedings. However, Ranaut's lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, countered the request, saying he could prove the case was unfounded in as little as five minutes.

Judge AZ Khan, while noting the stay request, expressed the need to hear arguments from both sides before making a decision. Due to the judge's busy schedule, he set a date for the arguments to be briefed on August 24.

The lawsuit in question was filed by Kangana Ranaut against Javed Akhtar regarding their meeting which took place between them in March 2016. Andheri Magistrates Court issued a summons for Akhtar on August 1, after which he will have to appear in court on August 5. , but cannot due to travel commitments.

The story of the case goes back to 2016 when Kangana Ranaut and actor Hrithik Roshan got into an argument over exchanging emails, which led to a public dispute. Javed Akhtar, close to Roshans, arranged a meeting with Ranaut and asked him to apologize to Roshan. After the meeting, Ranaut accused Akhtar of trying to "blackmail" him with an apology.

In 2021, in a television interview, Kangana Ranaut described a 2016 encounter that Akhtar deemed defamatory, prompting him to stand trial against her.

In response to Akhtar's defamation lawsuit, the actor filed his own lawsuit, which resulted in the court filing a lawsuit against Akhtar under Sections 506 (criminal threats) and 509 (insulting women's decency) women) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
