Mumbai Crime Division on Saturday arrested a man who threatened two women with a gun at a jewelry store in Bandra, Mumbai. TV9 Bharatvarsha has CCTV footage of the whole robbery.
Police identified the defendant as Riyaz Ahmed Abdul Gani War. He is 29 years old and resides in Jammu and Kashmir. CCTV footage shows War entering the jewelry store wearing a raincoat. He then pulled out a gun and threatened the two women. He also demanded Rs 5 lakh from the shop owner.
Police have registered a case under Section 393 of the Indian Penal Code. FIR was deposited at Bandra police station.
The defendant was arrested by the officers of the Crime Branch, with the assistance of technical means. Further investigations are underway into the entire matter.
According to the complaint recorded by the police, the defendant entered the complainant's store and threatened the complainant and her staff to rob them and also to blackmail them.
Police said the incident instilled terror in the minds of the complainant, her employees, and other traders in the area.
Talking about how the defendant was arrested, Mumbai Criminal Division Unit 9 said it received reports that the man would arrive at Bandra (West) Railway Station on Saturday. As a result, a team from Unit 9 set up a trap and arrested the defendant. He was taken to the office where he confessed to the crime.
Police recovered 2 cell phones of the subjects. While one mobile phone has 2 SIM cards, both from Jammu and Kashmir, the second mobile phone has only one SIM card from Mumbai.
