Manipur Ethnic Violence: 3 dead as violence escalates in Bishnupur  

 


In recent incidents of violence in Manipur's Bishnupur district, at least three unarmed villagers, including a father and son, were killed early this morning when suspected militants entered the village. village of Ukha Tampak near Kwakta in Bishnupur and began shooting indiscriminately, according to police sources.

Police reported on Saturday morning that three men were shot while they were sleeping and then slashed with swords. They also allege that the perpetrator is from Churachandpur.

According to police sources, the attackers' success in breaching the buffer zone guarded by central security forces between the hills and valleys has raised serious concerns about the incident.

Manipur BJP member Rajkumar Imo Singh has criticized federal security forces, alleging major security flaws in the militant attack in the Bishnupur area that left three people dead earlier in the day. He also called for the punishment of members of the paramilitary force for their "negligence in duty".

Rajkumar Imo Singh, the minister's son-in-law and a member of the paramilitary force, said the three victims were brutally murdered by militants from neighboring districts entering the area.

In recent violent events, many community houses in Kuki were also destroyed by fire.

After that, more gunfire was reported between the Kuki community and the police force in the Kwakta ward of the Bishnupur district.

During the shooting, a commando from Manipur was wounded in the head. After recent acts of violence, the situation in Bishnupur is quite dire. The commando was taken to Bishnupur Hospital for treatment. It comes after 17 people were injured in clashes that broke out between the army and protesters from the Meitei community on Thursday in the Bishnupur district of Manipur.

Following Meitei's request for Scheduled Tribe (ST) designations, Kuki and Meitei groups in the northeastern state engaged in violent ethnic clashes. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes because of the violence.
