Manipur is violently shameful, politicizing it even more shamefully: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Parliament of politicizing the violence in Manipur and said the BJP was always ready to discuss the matter. Speaking to the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion discussion, he also said violence in Manipur was decreasing and urged the opposition to 'don't add fuel to the fire'.

"I agree with the opposition's claim that ethnic clashes have taken place in Manipur. The violence in Manipur is shameful, politicizing it is even more shameful," Amit Shah said of the clashes. Manipur is in Lok Sabha.

Saying that the situation had improved in the state, he said: "I ask the opposition not to add fuel to the fire. Rahul Gandhi went to Manipur to do politics. He insisted on visiting Churachandpur by road even though we had booked a helicopter for him. The whole country has seen all the drama on television. The next day he continued to use the helicopter, but he was unable to do so earlier because he wanted to show his disapproval. This kind of policy should not be implemented in times of crisis."

Shah rejected the Manipur Premier's request for impeachment and said CM Biren Singh is working with the Center to resolve the situation in the state.
